Even though the holidays are just around the corner, this is the perfect time to plan your event rentals and workplace technology needs for next year. Take the time to review the list below and see what you think. Some of these gadgets are here, but not fully developed; while others have been around for a long time and are getting better and better with age.
Here’s my gadget wish list for 2015 and I hope you will share with us what yours is as well.
Tablets are in Demand
iPads have revolutionized the meeting industry and they just keep getting better and better. Smaller, thinner and faster with better displays and more apps, it will be hard to say no to an iPad this year.
Microsoft Surface Pro 3
Tablet Rental Finally, Microsoft got it. Their latest version of the Surface runs Windows 8, has a much improved keyboard and kickstand and a battery life that can match most iPads. Two things are lacking with this device that I hope be improved in the coming year, 1) more apps – both native and web-based and 2) a little thinner and lighter device (such as an iPad mini). I fully expect these improvements to be forthcoming.
Accessories That Matter
The Echo Smartpen works with a Laptop rental and can record up to 200 hours of audio, so you will never miss a word in a meeting. It connects via a USB port for easy transfer and storage of data, and has a LED to help you navigate through the smartpen apps.
The Jot Pro is a non-active stylus for the iPad. It simulates natural pen and paper contact for a smoother and quieter stroke. In addition, it magnetically attaches to the iPad so you are never searching for it.
Cool Cameras & Apps
The GoPro line of high definition cameras makes it simple to capture the happenings at your event. In addition, you can expand your GoPro experience with the free GoPro App which works on both Apple and Android devices. The GoPro App can control your camera remotely, play back and share content, and watch “best-of” videos on the GoPro Channel. GoPro Studio software is the best way to import and play back your GoPro media, and makes it easy to create your own engaging GoPro videos to share with attendees on video wall rentals.
The Eyefi Mobi is a wireless card you can add to any “point and shoot” camera. This is great for any photographers at your event who use standard cameras. In addition, attendees can download the Eyefi Mobi app to their smartphone, tablet rental or laptop. The Eyefi Cloud allows all your event photos to be synced to your attendee devices and is a great backup option.
Sleek Mobile Charger
SEYVR Power Saver Wallet has a built-in 1400mAh Li-Po battery that can charge your phone anytime you need it. The battery is recharged using the supplied USB cable. While it acts like a true wallet, it is always ready to charge your phone and can do so in less than 2.5 hours.
Devices with Longer Lasting Battery Life
The Motorola Droid Turbo smartphone will last 48 hours on a single charge. Alongside the epic battery is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0, which can charge up to 60% of a battery in 15 minutes using a specific cable.
The Ultra Power Saving Mode in the Samsung Galaxy ALPHA smartphone allows the battery to last a week when only text and talking features are enabled.
And of course wearable technology which I wrote about on Tuesday has great battery life but has it challenges in terms of applications and broad acceptance by the general public.
